
Cooee /ku:'i:/ a shout used in Australia, a means of re-uniting those separated, to help to find or bring somebody home - in this case, to help connect us with the past.
This thesis, based primarily on a range of primary Indonesian and Dutch source material, describes the desperate and courageous resistance by Indonesian nationalists to the occupation of the Yogiakarta Sultanate by the veterans of the Dutch Army's 'Tiger Brigade' from late 1945. It highlights the role played by a young Indonesian officer, Suharto, later President of Indonesia as well as the Dutch views of what they faced when they returned in the wake of WWII.
